Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the size of the breasts by excising some of the breast tissue and the skin.

What are the most common reasons for women to have Breast Reduction Surgery?

Disproportionately large breasts can make it difficult for a woman to exercise, play sports or find clothing that fit’s properly. She may have deep indentations on their shoulders caused by bra straps and may suffers from strained back muscles and back pain because the back compensates for the weight on the front of the body.

Large breasts can also cause skin infections and irritations under the fold of the breast. Overly large breasts can also make a woman feel self-conscious and insecure, since she may be subject to unwanted attention. Reduction Mammoplasty can be helpful for all of these situations.

How much does Breast Reduction Surgery cost at My Cosmetic Clinic?

From $10,700.00 all inclusive of surgery, premium implants, unlimited follow-ups, anesthetist, hospital fees and taxes.

When will I be able to see the results?

After your Breast Reduction procedure you should notice the difference in breast volume immediately. If the procedure was due to back pain associated with very large breasts, pain relief is usually immediate. After the swelling subsides, you will begin to notice a difference in the compact appearance of your breasts.

Is breastfeeding possible after Breast Reduction Surgery?

If you intend to have children after breast reduction surgery, understand that the surgery will interfere with breastfeeding and may make it impossible. The ability to breastfeed after mammoplasty depends on how much breast tissue is removed and whether the milk ducts (the small tubes that carry milk from the breast glands) to the nipples are cut. Some women have been able to successfully breastfeed after reduction surgery but this is an issue you should give great thought to before you decide to have breast reduction surgery.

What should I expect from Breast Reduction Surgery consultation?

Before you commit to a breast reduction procedure, you should sit with Dr. Ansari and discuss how you want to look. This will help ensure your goals can be attained through surgery.

You can look at before-and-after mammoplasty pictures to be sure you are both in agreement about how you want to look after the surgery. Some health insurance policies may cover Breast Reduction Surgery – always best to check with your health insurer before arranging the consultation.

How is Breast Reduction Surgery performed?

Breast reduction surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, where you sleep throughout the surgical procedure. Often, it is done in a hospital and you stay at least overnight, although less extensive reductions may be performed in a freestanding surgical unit which allow you to go home that day (same-day surgery).

During a breast reduction procedure, Dr. Ansari will remove excess breast tissue to create a breast that is the desired size and shape. The tissue removed is usually skin, breast fat tissue and glandular tissue containing milk products.

The size of the areola (the dark area around the nipple) can also be adjusted during mammoplasty, if the areolae are too large.

Sometimes liposuction can be used to get rid of extra fat at the outer part of breasts not accessible directly during surgery. Remaining breast tissues and skin is sutured to lift the breast into the new location. Dressing is applied to keep the wounds covered. A breast reduction may take up to 3 hours to perform, depending on the technique used and the amount of work required to achieve the desired outcome.

What should I expect post-operatively?

Your recovery will be carefully monitored. You may be allowed to be taken home a few hours after your procedure or may be required to remain in the hospital depending on the extent of the surgery. Pain associated with Breast Reduction is usually minimal to moderate and will be controlled with oral pain medication. Prescribed antibiotics must also be taken post-operatively for several days to prevent infection.

Instructions for the day and night after surgery include bed rest with limited activities. During your post-operative visits, Dr. Ansari will determine when normal activities can be resumed, normally at three weeks. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting must be avoided for several weeks.

Swelling may increase over the first three days. You should wear your bra 24 hours a day for at least the first three weeks. After the initial 21-day period, the bra should be worn at least during the daytime for six months. Your Dr. Ansari will remove the tapes covering the suture lines in approximately 10 to 15 days.

How visible are the scars after Breast Reduction Surgery?

Mammoplasty will leave you with scars on your breasts. The scars usually exist around the areola (pigmented skin around nipple), extending down to the breast fold. When you look at photos of women who have had mammoplasty, make sure you see how the scars look so you’re prepared for how you will look after breast reduction surgery.

Are the results of Breast Reduction Surgery permanent?
