Breast lift surgery is usually performed after a woman experiences a loss of breast tissue and sagging, often following weight loss or pregnancy. If you are planning to have children in the future, it is important that you postpone your breast lift surgery until youhave completed yourfamily. Mastopexy can be performed at any age if you are in good health, have no serious health conditions, are not prone to keloid scarring, and have good elastic skin.
The cost of breast lift surgery starts from $13,900, which includes surgery and anaesthetic fees, hospital charges, and follow-up appointments for 6 months.
Dr Ansari will discuss with you the details ofyour breast lift surgery, outline the placement of the incisions, and talk to you about the post-operative period and his instructions for your recovery. He will alsoexplain the possible risks and answer any questions you may have concerning your breast lift surgery.
The specific type of procedure chosen for your breast lift surgery is determined by several factors, such as the degree of lift required, the elasticity of your skin and yourgoals.
One of the most important factors in selecting the technique for your surgery is the amount of sag or ptosis that is present in your breasts. When a slight amount of ptosis exists, a periareolarmastopexy (around the pigmented skin of the nipple) can be performed, and in this case is often performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation. Your nipple can be lifted 2 to 3 centimetresusing this technique (about 1 to 1.5 inches).
However, if a moderate amount of lift is required, the periareolar incision is combined with a vertical incision that runs down to the bottom of your breast and is also known as a “lollipop lift”. To correct a great amount of ptosis however, an additionallarger crescent incision in the crease at the bottom of your breast is made, and is referred to as an “anchor lift.”
Whatever the technique used for your breast lift surgery, the goal is to remove the excess sagging skin of your breasts and to recontour your breasts. Generally, the scars will fade within a year, with the scars around and in the areola area, seeming to fade and flatten faster than those in non-pigmented areas.
bearableamount of pain and a moderate amount of swelling. Sutures placed in your breast tissue will dissolve over several months and sutures placed through yourskin, usually dissolve within a few weeks.
A special tape called “Steri-Strips” or “tissue glue”isusually placed over yoursutures to protect your wound, anda support bra should be worn continuously for 3 weeks. You can usuallyreturn to workafter 1 week and start casual walking the day after surgery. However, any strenuous exercise should be avoided untilyour wound is well healed i.e. 4-6 weeks.
Don’t forget that it is quite normal to lose sensitivity in the nipple and breast skin due to swelling, which blocks the ability of the nerves to send and receive pain and pressure messages. Most sensation will however, return within 1 to 3 months, but may take longer. Occasionallythe loss of sensationto the nippleis permanent.
Normally, the pain of breast lift surgery is not severe, with most patients experiencing discomfort and soreness. You will be prescribed pain medications, which should alleviate the pain associated with your surgery. If you feel that your pain is severe however, do not hesitate to contact the clinic or Dr Ansari.
The periareolarmastopexy leaves just a scar around your areola and the “lollipop lift” (or keyhole lift) leaves a scar around your areola and a scar straight down to the mammary crease. The full breast lift surgeryor “anchor lift” will cause an additional scar at the breast fold.
Dr Ansari will attempt to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible. However, you must realize that breast lift surgery scars are extensive and permanent. Yourscars will be red and raised for several months, gradually fading in colour and flattening out. Over the next 12 to 24 months, your scars will fade dramatically and in many cases, willnot be very noticeable at all. In some women, the scars will always be somewhat visible, generally seen as a lighter area on the breast.
Although the results of yourbreast lift are immediate, there will be a surgical dressing covering your breast for few days. This dressing will be removed at your post-operative visit with Dr Ansari and you will be able to clearly see the results at that point.
