As the aging process begins, the facial tissues get thin due to the collagen and
elastin fibers break down, resulting in sagging of skin, deep crease / fold formation, and appearance of aged look.
The Thread lift is intended to be a non-surgical alternative to a facelift for the patients who don’t want to have an invasive surgery. In Thread lift procedure, after making a small skin puncture via needle, barbed threads attached to the needle are inserted to pull the skin upwards. This procedure can be customised based upon your desired results. It can also be easily adjusted or reversed if desired. The Thread lift procedure is simple to perform and can be undertaken in the clinic settings. Thousands of Thread lifts have successfully been performed on both men and women.
Thread Lifts offer firmer, younger looking skin without surgery and can be used to treat the following areas:
- Thin lips
- Cheek enhancement
- Lost volume due to aging
- Wrinkles and creases
- Laugh lines
- Smoker’s lips
- Acne scarring
- Nasolabial folds
Our practitioners will provide you with quality advice and a complimentary consultation prior to proceeding with your treatment to best discuss your goals and options in detail.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A THREAD LIFT?
The best candidates for a Thread lift are men and women who are beginning to experience sagging in the cheeks, brow, jowls or neck area.

The procedure is not recommended for patients who are grossly overweight or extremely thin or if the skin is too loose and needs a full face lift.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH A THREAD LIFT?
Dr. Ansari will discuss your options and expectations thoroughly with you during your consultation appointment. Areas that can be treated are:
- Sagging eyebrows
- Asymmetric brows
- Sagging cheeks
- Drooping soft tissues of the mid and lower face
- Sagging neck area
WHAT ARE THREADS?
Threads are the barbed sutures cleared by the TGA for lifting the sagging contours of the brow, mid-face and neck areas. Unlike conventional sutures, which are smooth, Threads have tiny barbs or cogs and are made of clear
polypropylene so they are not visible under fair or thin skin. Polypropylene is a material that has been used safely in the body for many years in medical devices.
HOW DO WE PERFORM THREAD LIFT?
Dr Ansari will make a tiny incision or puncture in the temporal area and lower face and the threads are inserted under the skin. The tiny barbs on each thread open in an umbrella-like fashion to form a support structure that gently lifts sagging tissues of the brow, face and/or neck. Once in position, your body generates new collagen bundles that encapsulate each thread to help maintain the elevation or lifting effect. The exact placement of the threads will vary from patient to patient.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
The procedure is quick, and usually performed under local anaesthesia, and if desired, light oral sedation. The actual length of time will depend upon the total number of threads used. On average, the procedure typically takes
approximately one hour. In most cases, four threads is the minimum needed to address moderate sagging of one facial area.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME?
Patients can usually return to normal activities or return to work within a few days to a week. In most cases, there is only minimal discomfort, bruising or swelling. Concealing makeup may be worn the next day. Sometimes there is an indentation of the skin where the thread case a bit of tension. This indentation usually resolves within few weeks.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?
Physician’s experiences have shown that duration varies from 18 months to three years or more, depending upon the patient’s age at the time of the procedure, the degree of sagging and the number of threads used.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS / SIDE EFFECTS?
When performed by an experienced surgeon the thread lift procedure is safe and complications are uncommon. Minor complications may include swelling, bruising, thread rupture, skin irregularities, asymmetries, puckering
or infection. In some cases, patients may feel some tightness or pulling or may be able to feel the threads. Since this technique is entirely reversible, unwanted effects are usually easily corrected under local anaesthesia.
CAN A THREAD LIFT BE COMBINED WITH OTHER COSMETIC PROCEDURES?
The thread lift procedure is an ideal complement to other facial rejuvenation techniques. It is not uncommon to have a Thread lift combined with dermal fillers to reduce facial muscle activity, dermal fillers to enhance volume or peels and liposuction to improve jowl/chin area.
DOES THE PROCEDURE CHANGE THE FACIAL FEATURES?
Thread lift procedure rejuvenate the face without changing your natural features. Facial soft tissues are just repositioned to their original location. After a thread lift you can typically expect to look like you did few years ago.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS?
Immediately after the operation, cold compresses are recommended to help avoid bruising. Patients are not required to stay at home following a Thread Lift – it’s a matter of personal choice. However, it is important during the first days not to stress or exert pressure on treated facial areas. It is advisable to sleep on two or three pillows to raise shoulders for the first three or four days.
